HPC Application Support
The MPCDF provides consulting and dedicated high-level support for the development, optimization, analysis, and visualization of high-performance-computing (HPC) and high-performance data analytics (HPDA) applications. This comprises the development and optimization of codes in collaboration with Max-Planck scientists, scientific visualization of data from simulations and experiments, and technical consulting, e.g. on programming techniques and models, like for the use of hardware accelerators (e.g. GPU).

Data Analytics & Visualization
The MPCDF provides end-to-end solutions on HPC systems for high-performance data analytics and visualization projects for Max Planck scientists. This ranges from the integration of the infrastructure (such as Jupyter notebooks, remote visualization services, support of Apache Spark, …) into the HPC system, the provisioning of HPC optimized software (like various frameworks for deep learning and AI), as well as dedicated high-level project support in close collaboration with MPG research groups. Project support comprises consulting on state-of-the-art techniques, the development, and optimization of data analytics (especially deep learning and AI) solutions, and of the creation of high-quality scientific visualizations.

Hosting & Housing: Hosting of large-scale IT infrastructure of scientific departments of the MPG
The MPCDF offers a carefree hosting package for scientific departments of the Max-Planck-Society. Typically, this includes large compute clusters, multi-petabyte storage systems, a flexible batch system, a set of highly available virtual machines, and also the integration of external data flows like data acquisition at high-resolution microscopes. As of 2020, the MPCDF is hosting compute and storage systems for more than 25 Max-Planck-Institutes, comprising a total number of more than 100,000 CPU cores, about 1,000 GPUs, and more than 50 PetaBytes of online disk storage.

Training & Education
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for one day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

We want our users to be able to optimally use our HPC systems. Therefore, the MPCDF provides training and educational events for the MPG and its partners. From the basic introduction of how to use our systems to focused advanced workshops and lectures, we give our users the means to master their work on our systems.
