MPQueer

MPQueer, the queer network of the Max Planck Society, strives to accelerate the formation of a supportive and progressive queer community in the MPG. The formation of a queer community within the MPG is intended to aid in creating inclusive and accepting environments for queer people throughout this institution. The network aims to regularize the dissemination of information, activities, and opportunities related to queer identities throughout the mailing list. Through its emancipation from the PhD network of the MPG, the network additionally endeavors to extend its reach to queer members of the MPG across all scientific and non-scientific roles. The network would serve the entirety of the queer community at the MPG through the support of projects initiated by network members, as well as the formation of long term collaborations with human resources at the cross- and within-institute levels in order to improve the working environments and conflict resolution channels for queer members of the society.

MPQueer uses “queer” as an umbrella term for people who are not heterosexual and/or are not cisgender. This includes the identities indicated in the regularly used acronym LGBTI+, which stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, and also including a + (plus sign) in order to encompass many other identities that fall under the queer umbrella. The “+” includes, but is not limited to, anyone who is asexual, demisexual, non-binary, gender fluid, pansexual, polyamorous and questioning.
